Sugar Rush

FAST FACTS:

Hello! I am Emarrah Contessa Sarreal, 16 years old, and a Mass Communication sophomore at Silliman University.

WHY MASS COMMUNICATION?

In this age of “brain draining in the Philippines”, I don’t want to be one of those brains that get drained every year. I define brain drain in two ways.

1. Brain drain in the sense that you’re brain is one of the thousands of brains that leave Philippines to serve in another country where the pasture is greener in order to have a secure future.

2.  Brain drain in the sense that your brain feels drained after hours of memorizing facts and nursing theories, reading those really thick books.

We can’t deny this “nursing boom” in the Philippines. And I don’t want to say that I don’t want to earn money (journalism is not a lucrative career. you have to work really hard in order to earn enough money to live). It’s just that Nursing is not for me. I love being in an environment where creative thinking is encouraged rather than memorize theory after another theory. I’d rather be holding a pen and scribble or be in front of a computer screen, fervently punching in words. The pen and the keyboard really tempt me.

WHY “SUGAR RUSH”?

1. I loooooooooooooove coffee and chocolate so much that if my body can survive on coffee and chocolates alone, I would eat just that. =)

2. I love the rush that I feel after a cup of my favorite coffee or a bite chocolate. It makes me energetic and happy. =)

3. So when I’m happy, I feel like writing and my thinking will be clear.

4. Hence the birth and name of this blog. =)

Without the help of this phenomena called “sugar rush”, this blog won’t exist. =)

WHY WORDPRESS?

I used to have five blog accounts and my friendster blog was the only one I write in. My other accounts gathered dust. But my Friendster blog felt confined thus, my “creativity” suffered big time and I churned out half-hearted entries. In short, I wasn’t satisfied. WordPress  gave me a chance to be creative and think of topics I never thought of before. Therefore, this blog would be the witness to my “sugar seizures” through words which is what WordPress is really about. (I really love the name WordPress. Because when you’re typing, you’re literally pressing the words)
